Apantos is a continent of Árdan.
Etymology
The name "Apantos" comes from Classical Arikiosi Apantos, which is thought to be a loan from Proto-Khtozar *h₁ep-ntöh₂- meaning "here [they] stand and spread out".
History
Geography
Extent
Apantos is located distally from Mineia. Most of the population is located in the warmer regions, as Apantos extends into the Shadelands. Because of this, the true scale of the continent is unknown.
Topography
Apantos is mostly flat land leading up to the Ilkur mountains, commonly referred to as the “Roof of the World” due to having the tallest peaks in Árdan.
Climate
The climate of Apantos is warm with dry summers in the sunward regions, with the X Peninsula even experiencing a more humid tropical climate. Further inland, the climate transitions to colder steppes, eventually leading to frigid climates at and beyond the Shadelands.
Ecology
Culture
The Apantosi are most well-known for being primarily matriarchal societies, where women hold most positions of power, such as government and law enforcement, leaving the men to be laborers and soldiers. Apantosi are recognisable by the fact that women tend to have short hair, while men wear longer hair. The Nuhkuri High Guard, an order of female warriors, are known to be some of the most skilled fighters in all of Árdan.
