Twilight Isle (Asclovian: Car na gCìth Adamhais) is an island in the Unknown Sea located distal-counterclockwise of Astach. Lying at the edge of the Shadelands, it is one of the most remote locations populated by humans.

Name

The name "Twilight Isle" is a direct translation of the Asclovian name Car na gCìth Adamhais. Cìth adamhais "twilight" literally translates to "half light". The name refers to the Sun's low position in the sky from the island, leading to a perpetual evening light.

Geography

Twilight Isle is located around 820 km distal-counterclockwise from Astach, or about 4.5 days' sail. It is one of the most distal and remote islands in the illuminated world. It is a small, rocky island, the topology of which makes it difficult for ships to make port. On the island is a small village with a perpetually blazing beacon tower. No trees grow naturally on the island and planting crops is difficult, so the inhabitants live primarily off of fishing, hunting seas and whales and farming mussels.

Culture

The population of Twilight Isle is around 200. While nominally part of the Kingdom of Astach, the island's distance from the mainland makes it difficult to administrate. As such, taxes and tributes are collected by regional officials only once a year, and the inhabitants of Twilight Isle otherwise enjoy relative autonomy.
