As Árdan is a fictional fantasy world, sense of time is obviously different from that of Earth. Therefore, several in-world calendar systems are used to keep track of time.

Due to their highly regular nature, the majority of calendar systems on Árdan are based on the movement of the moons and the Sun’s activity. Of the two moons, Ezad orbits below the Sun and regularly eclipses it every few hours. It completes a full orbit in 12 days, commonly separated into two 6-day weeks. Laksha orbits around the Sun over a period of exactly 24 days, or 4 weeks. The beginning of a new month is marked by the two moons aligning. Every 360 days, or 15 months, the Sun enters a period of increased activity, lasting a few days. During this time, colorful aurorae can be seen around the world, which commonly marks the start of the new year. Where most calendar systems differ is in the way they choose to count years, as each system as a different ‘year 1’ relative to which time is measured. Those reference years are usually of great cultural significance.

Temlinid calendar

The Temlinid calendar, also known as Mineian calendar or Consensus calendar, is among the most widely used systems in the world. It is the standard calendar system for all nations following the Consensus, from Central Mineia to the Land of Winds and Astach. The start date of the Temlinid calendar is the rise of the Eshtem king Temlin the Great to the throne, around 2,800 years before the current day. Most dates on this wiki will be referred to as AT (‘After Temlin’) or BT (‘Before Temlin’).

Yososan calendar

The Yososan calendar, named after Yŏsosŏ I the Great of the Derezi dynasty, is the calendar system used in Yoraënism. It is centered around the date Yŏsosŏ declared Yoraënism the state religion of the realm, in 1773 AT. Dates following this event are referred to as YL (‘Year of Laksha’) and dates before as BYL (‘Before Year of Laksha’).

Stellar calendar

The Stellar calendar is a calendar system used by Astrologists. Unlike most calendars, it is based on the movements of the stars. The start year is based on the publication of Óro Mandell’s First Haereses in 1915 AT, which are seen as the foundational texts of modern Astrology.
