The Derezi dynasty (/dəˈrɛzi, -ˈreɪ-/, Classical Indrelian: Dĕrezĕγ Saβĕn Darebroγĕn) was an ancient Indrelian empire founded by Yŏsosŏ the Great. At peak, it was the largest land empire of its time and one of the largest in history, stretching across most of Paranaja and parts of Central Mineia. The Derezi dynasty is considered a golden age in Indrelian history.

Etymology

The Derezi dynasty is named after House Derezi (Classical Indrelian: Dĕrezĕγ), which originated as the epithet of Yŏsosŏ the Great. The epithet Dĕrezĕγ is the genitive of dĕrezĕn "sky, heavens".

Around the 17th century AT the Khtozaric peoples who settled the lands began calling themselves Dĕreliβes and their new homeland Dĕrelĕn. The various predecessor kingdoms had different names, most often named after cities. When Yŏsosŏ the Great united the Indrelian lands, he would name his empire Dĕrezĕγ Saβĕn Darebroγĕn "Great Kingdom of the Heavens".

Languages

The Derezi dynasty was a multi-ethnic empire. The official language of the court was Classical Indrelian, which was also spoken as a popular language around the X area. There were also various regional dialects of Indrelian spoken throughout the empire. The most significant linguistic minority was the Old Szaa language, spoken by the Szaa people in the sunward-clockwise part of the empire. Some late Low Deweri and Yanchuh dialects were spoken respectively in the distal and sunward regions, but these would go extinct by the 19th century AT.

Society

Religion and magic

Magic played an important role in Derezi society, with many of the ruling class practicing magic. As Yŏsosŏ the Great was a staunch defender of the magic arts, he cultivated magical orders within his realm and incorporated regiments of mages within his armies. He also began spreading the moons-worshipping religion of Yoraënism across Paranaja, which would lead to tensions with the Consensus-aligned nations of Mineia.
